World-Class Vision Correction for International Patients
You should not have to compromise on quality to find vision correction that fits your schedule, your budget, and your life. Pro Vision Eye Center brings fellowship-trained surgeons, Zeiss technology, and a fully English-speaking team together in one premium destination, New Cairo, Egypt.
Why Cairo for Laser Vision Correction?
Medical tourism to Egypt for ophthalmology is not new, Egypt has long been home to internationally trained eye surgeons and world-class diagnostic infrastructure. What has changed is the technology. With the arrival of Zeiss VisuMax 800 and SMILE Pro at Pro Vision, patients from the Gulf, Europe, and beyond now have access to the same procedure available at the world's top refractive centers, at a fraction of the cost.
At Pro Vision Eye Center, we have designed the entire international patient experience around one principle: you should feel as confident and supported in Cairo as you would at any leading center in your home country.
The Cairo Advantage
Why Pro Vision Eye Center for International Patients?
Surgeons Trained Where You Expect
Our surgical team holds fellowships from institutions patients from the Gulf, UK, and international markets recognise immediately: • Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami — ranked #1 eye hospital in the United States • Washington University in St. Louis — top-10 US medical school • University Hospital Marburg, Germany — where SMILE surgery was invented • The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK — FRCOphth • European Board of Ophthalmology — FEBO, FICO These are not honorary titles. They represent years of subspecialty training at institutions that set the global standard.
The Same Technology as the World's Best Centres
Pro Vision operates the complete Zeiss Laser Suite — Zeiss VisuMax 800 (femtosecond laser) and Zeiss MEL 90 (excimer laser). This is the identical technology platform used at leading refractive surgery centres in London, Dubai, Frankfurt, and New York. When you choose Pro Vision, you are not compromising on equipment. You are accessing the same device in a different location — at a significantly lower price.
A Fully English-Speaking Environment
From your first WhatsApp message to your post-operative follow-up call, every member of the Pro Vision team you interact with speaks English fluently. Your pre-operative consultation, surgical briefing, procedure day instructions, and recovery guidance are all delivered in English. You will never be left trying to navigate a language barrier at a critical moment.
Telemedicine Follow-Up After You Return Home
We understand that international patients cannot always return for follow-up appointments in person. Pro Vision offers telemedicine consultations for post-operative check-ins after you return home, ensuring continuity of care regardless of geography. Your surgeon remains accessible.
Your Step-by-Step Journey as an International Patient
We have designed this process to be as simple and stress-free as possible — from your home country to your procedure day and back.
Remote Pre-Consultation (from your home country)
Contact Pro Vision via WhatsApp or our contact form. Share your current spectacle or contact lens prescription. Our team will give you an initial assessment of your likely suitability for SMILE Pro or an alternative procedure.
Video Consultation with Your Surgeon
For patients who wish to speak directly with their surgeon before travelling, we offer scheduled video consultations with doctors. You can ask every question, review the procedure in detail, and confirm your plan before booking flights.
Plan Your Visit
Most SMILE Pro patients require a minimum of 3 days in Cairo: one day for your full diagnostic workup, one day for the procedure, and one day for your first post-operative check before departure. We recommend 4–5 days to allow comfortable rest and acclimatisation. We will send you a personalised visit schedule and checklist after your remote consultation is confirmed.
Full Diagnostic Workup (Day 1)
On your first day at Pro Vision, you will undergo a comprehensive diagnostic session including: • CSO Sirius+ corneal topography — 3D mapping of both corneas • Full biometric measurements with Zeiss IOLMaster 700 • Refraction, pupil size and tear film assessment • Surgeon consultation to review results and confirm your procedure plan This session takes approximately 90 minutes. Your surgeon will confirm your suitability and finalise the procedure details in person.
Procedure Day (Day 2)
Arrive at Pro Vision Eye Center at your scheduled time. The SMILE Pro procedure takes approximately 15–20 minutes for both eyes. After a brief rest period, most patients are ready to return to their accommodation within 1–2 hours. Pro Vision's smart glass wall operating theatre allows you to bring a family member or companion who can watch through the glass during your procedure, they will see you are safe, comfortable, and in excellent hands.
First Post-Operative Check (Day 3)
Your surgeon will see you the following morning to assess your vision and confirm healthy healing. Most patients at this stage already have clear, significantly improved vision. You will receive your post-operative care kit, including lubricating drops and written instructions.
Telemedicine Follow-Up
Pro Vision provides telemedicine video consultations at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after your procedure. You can attend these appointments from anywhere in the world. If you have a local ophthalmologist, we will also provide a full medical report to share with them.

How Does the Cost Compare?
One of the most compelling reasons international patients choose Cairo for vision correction is the significant cost difference — without any compromise on technology or surgical quality. Procedures Available for International Patients
All Pro Vision procedures are available to international patients. The most common procedures requested by medical tourism patients include:
SMILE Pro
The most advanced flapless laser vision correction. 8-second laser step with Zeiss VisuMax 800. Ideal for myopia and astigmatism. One of the most requested procedures by international patients due to its fast recovery — most patients can fly home 48–72 hours after surgery.
Femto LASIK
A proven, widely used procedure using two Zeiss lasers (VisuMax 800 + MEL 90). Suitable for a wide range of prescriptions. Similar recovery timeline to SMILE Pro for most patients.
PRK
The original surface laser procedure. No flap. Ideal for thin corneas or patients not suitable for SMILE Pro or LASIK.
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)
For patients with very high prescriptions or thin corneas who are not suitable for laser correction. A biocompatible lens is implanted inside the eye. Reversible. Excellent visual outcomes.
ZEISS PRESBYOND®
Laser correction for patients over 40 experiencing reading vision difficulty (presbyopia). Combines distance and near vision correction in a single laser treatment. Particularly popular with international patients who are tired of carrying reading glasses.
Premium Cataract Surgery
For patients requiring cataract surgery with premium IOL (intraocular lens) implantation. Pro Vision uses Zeiss IOLMaster 700 for precision measurements. Multiple premium IOL options available. Recovery is generally 1–2 weeks to full visual function.
Frequently Asked Questions — International Patients
Not at all. Your entire experience at Pro Vision — from the first WhatsApp message to your post-operative follow-up — is conducted in English. All written instructions, medical reports, and post-operative documentation are provided in English.
Yes. Pro Vision offers video consultations with all doctors for international patients prior to travel. You can discuss your prescription, ask questions about the procedure, and confirm your suitability before booking flights. Contact us via WhatsApp or email to schedule your remote consultation.
The minimum recommended stay is 3 days: Day 1 for your full diagnostic workup, Day 2 for the SMILE Pro procedure, and Day 3 for your first post-operative check. We recommend 4–5 days to allow comfortable rest and avoid any travel-related stress during early recovery.
Most SMILE Pro patients receive clearance to fly 48–72 hours after their procedure — which typically means Day 3 or Day 4 of your visit. Flying itself does not harm your eyes after SMILE Pro. The main concern is avoiding dusty or dry environments and ensuring you use lubricating drops regularly during the flight. Your surgeon will confirm your individual clearance at your Day 3 check.
Yes. Pro Vision provides all international patients with a comprehensive post-operative medical report including your diagnostic data, procedure details, prescribed medications, follow-up schedule, and surgeon contact information. This report is in English and can be shared with any ophthalmologist in your home country.
New Cairo is one of Egypt's most modern and secure residential and commercial districts. Mivida is a gated compound community with international-standard infrastructure. Pro Vision's location within Eterna Healthcare City provides a completely self-contained medical environment. Millions of international visitors travel to Cairo annually, and the New Cairo district is specifically designed around international residents and businesses.
Yes — and many patients do. A 5–7 day visit gives you enough time for your procedure and recovery while allowing time to visit Cairo's world-famous attractions: the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, Khan El Khalili, and Coptic Cairo. We recommend keeping Day 1 and Day 2 focused on your procedure, with sightseeing reserved for Day 4 onwards. Avoid dusty environments and bright sun on days immediately after surgery.
In the unlikely event that a small residual prescription remains after your procedure, Pro Vision can schedule an enhancement procedure on a return visit, or provide full documentation for any qualified surgeon in your home country to perform the enhancement. Our telemedicine follow-up programme ensures we monitor your outcome regardless of where you are in the world.
